British Values Statement
Brooksward School Values
The Department for Education requires schools “to promote fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” At Brooksward, we are committed to promoting and fostering these fundamental values as an instrinsic part of our curriculum offer. We focus on the Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural development of all pupils and promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance through a regular variety of assemblies and experiences throughout the school year. We encourage all members of our learning community to meet and support our high expectations. The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, Here at Brooksward, British Values are reinforced through our day to day activities in and around the school. This document explains this in more detail
At Brooksward School, our core values—Excellence, Citizenship, and Innovation—form the foundation of the behaviours, attitudes, and learning characteristics we aim to nurture in our school community.

Excellence means always striving to do your best and achieve high standards in everything you do.

Citizenship means being an active, respectful, and supportive member of your community.

Innovation means thinking creatively, exploring new ideas, and finding better ways to solve problems.
Children learn about these values through our curriculum, assemblies, learning characters, and a wide range of activities both inside and outside the classroom. They are encouraged to demonstrate these values throughout the school day and beyond.
We reinforce these values in the following ways:
- Displaying them prominently around the school to keep them visible and top of mind.
- Modelling and promoting them consistently by all staff and members of the school community.
- Embedding them in our curriculum and teaching approaches.
- Using them as themes for class, key stage, and whole-school assemblies.
- Recognising and praising children when they show these values, both in school and in the wider community.
- Celebrating achievements linked to these values during our weekly Star of the Week assemblies.
By consistently promoting Excellence, Citizenship, and Innovation, we aim to create a positive, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment where every child can thrive.
